The Alpha’s Fated Encounter by Roxie Ray

Rating: 3 out of 5.

I walk into the bar with my pack, and I scent her straight away.

She’s lying behind the counter with blood trailing from an injury to her head. My desire to protect her stuns me almost as much as her beauty.

But it’s the smell of her blood that stuns me the most—it’s something not quite human.
When she wakes up, her fear tells me all I need to know. She definitely thinks she’s mortal.

I choose to disagree.

I make my pack watch over her while she heals, and she’s surprised I want to protect her. It’s obvious she hasn’t had good experiences with shifters in the past, but I intend to show her I’m different.

I also need time to find out the truth about her, including why she’s being hunted by our kind for reasons I’m yet to understand.

All I know is that whoever this woman really is, she’s special. And she’s mine…

My Review

There were two parts to the story in this book, referred to as books 1 and 2 but are both contained in one book.

The first thing I noticed upon opening this book is there is more than one book in the story. This includes both books with a pretty large number of chapters not sure why it was published as one Kindle book and separated. The paranormal romance and action-adventure within the pages are intriguing. I do find the characters interesting, and the suspense built to be page-turning. I love the Alpha Hero in this story and how it really hooks you into the life, legacy, and love of Maddy and her mate Nico. The first book has a happy-for-now ending.

Book 1

Maddy is a smart woman. She owns and operates her bar and is interested in her heritage. She was adopted and didn’t know much about her biological family. I do find the mention of anemia intriguing. She knows about the paranormals and can even identify shifters. I do find it interesting that it is written in the first person.

Nico is a little older and a little wiser than some of his friends. I think he might be a shifter, but not sure of much else. A night of partying leads them to Maddie’s bar, where they stumble upon her just after she is attacked, but he seems to be drawn to her blood. He isn’t sure why, but she might be his fated mate. Ah, so he is an Alpha.

I love his gentle, man-like ways as they piece together the why and what of the recent attack and the forced proximity. He has ulterior motives, but mostly, he is just a good guy. However, the author twists this story up a little with an intriguing revelation. I love the little bit of build-up we get before the steamy scenes. Maddy is accepting her reality more every day. Nico is total book-boyfriend material. Maddy is experiencing all sorts of things for the first time as her truth comes out. I love that the author lets us experience this with her so we understand all the supernatural instincts she is developing. She is more than just a human, and it gets uncovered clue by clue in this story. I won’t give you the information you have to read this paranormal for yourself.

I love the action and adventure in this book, along with the little bit of suspense the author creates with the storyline. This paranormal fiction is fascinating as well as romantic. This book ends steamy with a happy-for-now ending, but it does have a second part attached to this one story.

Book 2

This book picks up almost exactly where the first left off, almost as it was split into two parts but not intended to be two books. The steamy scenes are better described than I expected. I do love the female alpha in this story and can’t wait to see where it goes.

As this story progresses and the clock ticks down, we do get more answers about Maddie, her heritage, her parents, and more. I do find it interesting the author brings reincarnation into this wolf-shifter story. I like the way it is brought up personally, but the legends, myths, and nightmares that inspire it all are very unique. At this point, I kind of lost interest in the storyline, it just got too wrapped around everything else. I’m only reading it to finish the book.

I have to say I’m not a huge fan of the cloak-and-dagger part of this storyline. It’s not even suspenseful, just lots of questions, and very few answers. more paranormal fiction instead of romance at this point. The story seems to drag on as weeks to months pass in the timeline. Yet they are still at square one. I know the author is gonna end this with an action-packed ending, but by the name of the story, I was expecting more romance.

The end of this book is action-packed as this story finally hits its peak. If you have chanced to make it this far, enjoy the life-or-death moments. This book doesn’t end with a happy peaceful ending instead, it ends on the verge of mass hysteria, which leads into her next story in this series. I’m not interested in reading any further.
