Game On (Philadelphia Bulldogs Book 6) by Danica Flynn

Rating: 4 out of 5.

LILY

All I want to do is move on from my divorce and take care of my daughter. Struggling to get my accounting business off the ground, my only solace is video games and chatting online with my longtime gamer friend.

Then I met Logan Cullen. Logan’s a struggling parent too, but there’s something about him that feels so familiar. Neither of us have time for a relationship, but no one said being a single mom meant I couldn’t have a little fun.

LOGAN

Hockey and my nephew are the only thing I care about. I don’t have time for a relationship.

I knew it was a bad idea to fall into bed with Lily, but she insists on it only being some casual fun.

Something about her gives me déjà vu. Maybe it’s because we share the struggles of single parenthood. Or because we’re both video game nerds. It’s getting harder to remember we’re just casual when she’s my literal dream girl.

My Review

This hockey romance story is unexpectedly charming, with a sweet single dad, a hot mess single mom, and a friends-to-lovers romance. The story is realistic, including the single parenting hardships, the professional athlete’s inconveniences, and the bonds over simple things that bring joy. I thoroughly enjoyed this story. Logan and Lilly make you believe in friendship, love, and happiness in the simple moments.

Logan is an honorable guy who takes his single parenting seriously. His nephew is his world, and the unexpected way he became his father is tragic. However, I love that this new adult hockey player took responsibility. He may play professional sports, but he is a little nerdy and loves playing video games.

Lily is a recently divorced single parent to her daughter. Oh, now I see her connection to the inner workings of the hockey team.

There is some interconnection between her and Logan, but I love that they haven’t figured it out yet.

The author truly brings the realistic side of single parenting into this story with no sugarcoating but doesn’t focus on it. I love their practical, sometimes geeky dating, and the moment they realize this is more than just casual.

I love that the author carried the video games and character traits through the entire story. The end of this story is delightful, and it was an excellent read.
