Things can’t get any worse for werewolves like me.
For centuries, we’ve been kept prisoner by the Faceless, the creatures who hunt us for their own entertainment. They keep us alive just long enough to procreate so their supply of prey doesn’t run out. We have no lives of our own beyond mere survival.
At last, we’ve had enough. Through years of hard work and innovation, the wolves in my enclosure have created a portal that will send one wolf back in time, back to the point where it all went wrong. In the year 1629, the last wolf prince Bertran was slain, and with him went our ability to defend ourselves against the Faceless. If his death never happens, we might have a chance.
We only get one shot at this, one wolf who can try to change it all. And the wolf they’ve chosen? A 24-year-old she-wolf with a talent for self-preservation, thanks to a secret carried in her blood.
That’s right: it’s me.
No pressure then.
All I have to do is find Bertran, warn him of the danger, and make sure he doesn’t die. How hard could it be?
My Review
This book is a trip thru time literally. Author Jade Ember sends you on the perfect fantasy journey incorporating some amazing tropes like fated mates, Princes, and time travel, of course. I love the story the author weaves thru the pages of this romance. This book had spectacular writing, a spellbinding journey, and characters you can’t forget. I was enamored with Tristan and Raya, Bertie and Rachel and the ending of this book was mystifying. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series.
I haven’t read an actual paperback book in a really long time but due to publication issues, the author is unable to publish this story on Kindle so it is only available in paperback form.
Raya is a wolf about to embark on a journey to save her species by saving the last wolf Prince. I don’t normally read time travel books let alone paranormal ones but so far I’m intrigued. We time jump four hundred years in the past. The first person she meets is unexpected and none other than the one she was searching for. But I love the laugh-out-loud moments in the story already. Prince Bertie isn’t what I expected at all. Ah, so that’s how Tristan, cousin, to the Prince becomes part of this story a little surprising but I love the fated mates trope.
I’m loving the conversations and banter between Raya and Tristan. Tristan is a little swoony and a whole lot of Alpha Male. Raya is not your average female but I love her strength, determination, her brains, and bravery. The past gets complicated with truths, lies, and the unknowns like the mate bond. This book has me scrambled with the past and future talk as well as the present moments. I love that this story had new elements for a paranormal book like time travel for me but wow is it a trip to think about it.
This story isn’t all romance and fantasy it does have a certain feeling of suspense that keeps you turning pages. I find it interesting and can’t help but want to see what happens next. By this point, I’m hooked on the story I love the sparse information on the antagonist and the mysterious way they are talked about it really makes them dynamic to the reader. We haven’t yet met the antagonist in the story but we have a cautious outlook based on character development and how they are talked about. Although details are vague they have a certain err of beyond paranormal about them. The title which the author gives them also inspires a keen response from the reader. Overall this book has some truly well-written characters and conflict. Plot twist the person I thought I was supposed to dislike is now allied with Raya and Tristan. The author is cryptic in her reveals of characters gifts beyond the paranormal but I understand them to be supernatural in nature.
This story gets steamy as our heroine and her fated mate hero get intimate for the first time. The fairytale story in the middle of the book threw me for a minute. It seems to have some foreshadowing but isn’t very forthcoming. I’m still confused as to what will happen next. All the characters are fantastic but Raya and Tristin are phenomenal. Love triangles, secrets, and undercover antagonists are all woven through this book.
“Between the Secrets of the Past and the Horrors of the Future, can we really carve out a place for ourselves, here and now? Or somehow, has it all been decided for us already? “ The Last Wolf Prince by Jade Ember
The end of this book ramps up and I have to say the author even managed to give me the heebie-jeebies with her antagonist. So well done, described wonderfully, and of course, misunderstood or are they? Omg, could this be more exciting the author is writing amazing sequences or actions that I can barely process. I have to say I had tears in my eyes thru some of the scenes and I can’t believe that super twisted ending. I’m not saying I don’t love it but omg, you got me on this one. This book is an epic paranormal romance read.
Of course, now I’m itching to read Out of Time by Jade Ember and can’t wait to read it.
