My Review
Overall
This series begins with a lot of interesting concepts and tropes from an action-packed beginning it then veers into supernatural and paranormal as well as introduces our young adult heroine. Sienna is paranormal and later in the book, we find out what exactly. I do like the secret organization, suspense, and thrilling action sequences. I didn’t love that each book left you with more questions than answers. It seems we move two steps forward and one back with each revelation alongside Sienna. The author brings in some urban fantasy, a grotesque antagonist, and new problems along the way to keep you in the storyline. As the story progresses there isn’t much maturity shown very small glimpses and the books seem to read the same a lot about the heroine and a hook right at the end leading to the rest of the series. However, thru three books in this series, I read. I don’t feel like much was resolved for our main character instead things seem to be glossed over as the next action issue was brought into the story. Sienna is a damaged mc and has her demons to contend with. I do like the meta-human acknowledgment and most of this book felt like something you would be watching on “X-Men”. There are absolutely some urban fantasy and paranormal stretches in the characters and their talents. Overall I thought the first book was the better read and the other two were okay but not great.
The first chapter alone is enough to hook you into this story but we have no name for the main character yet only that she has lived a life of isolation but has no idea why. Siennas’ world has just imploded for the first time in 12 years she is out of her home in the large scary world. People are after her but she doesn’t know why she is almost the age of an adult. The action-packed intro finally leads us to a discovery they call Meta-human.
The directorate seems shady at best. But they do provide some answers as to this who and what a Meta-human is. It is nice that we have a set antagonist this Wolfe guy who is a very strong Meta.
Oh, some of her abilities are super cool and some of them a just a tad creepy like the dream one. I can’t wait to find out more. The action scenes get way more intense and even slightly give me the heebie-jeebies. But I so love every minute of the information and heroine we see in Sienna. She is a damaged mc in the way she was raised and kept but reading her discovering freedom and her talents is amazing.
This book seems to carry one main deeply disturbed antagonist but then when she finally makes progress in shutting down some of the suspense and thrilling parts of the story. I’m surprised by also confused as this isn’t the end of the book. What could come next?
An answer is revealed and her interesting, bizarre, meta-human classification is revealed. At this point, the book is paranormal with a nice mix of urban fantasy. I guess I’ll have to see where this story goes. Either way, I’m enjoying the urban fantasy, supernatural, and paranormal aspects of this thrilling suspense story.
I do think the author is loosely expanding the idea of what she is to fit their storyline. After looking up the definition I don’t see how it fits her abilities and meta-human talents. But ill read further to maybe get an idea as to what they are trying to classify under that targeted classification.
Okay so the author is expanding on a meta-human classification and power largely portrayed in “X-Men” The idea of the supernatural ability is the same but the concept and usage of it are YA, much like in the aforementioned movie. I do find it interesting that the author is weaving this concept in a paranormal, urban fantasy suspense story.
The author does end this book with a moment of questionable thoughts and behavior. Our heroine has experienced some trauma thus far and her mental and emotional state seem to be taking a lot of damage. I truly can’t wait to see what comes next.
The prologue of this book captivates you with a tale of supernatural beings and their lives. Alex is a damaged soul but he has lived a hard life and in his final moments he gets his vengeance but what does his and his sister’s tragic tale have to do with Sienna?
Sienna present day or was very innocent in the first book but now she seems to have the soul of the antagonist in her as well.
Old man winters seriously give me Gandalf vibes in this book. A lot do this book is about a young adult girl dealing with her new world and then it has moments that make me feel we are living in “X-Men “. The author goes back and forth between the two but not much has been resolved for Sienna.
I enjoy that in this book she finally matured a little and isn’t so self-involved. Also, the tiny bit of steam is a nice ya intro to maybe what’s coming. I don’t but as a teenage heroine, this isn’t too horrible. It is very supernatural and Hollywood movie-like, but Sienna has come away with more skills and brains and is working on being a true heroine.
Just as one foe is dealt with another seems to pop up and Sienna just can’t catch a break. The action and adventure in this suspenseful thrilling paranormal fiction and urban fantasy are intense like a Hollywood movie. The secret society stuff and young adult issues do take up most of this book with occasional action sequences. The end of this book is very suspenseful with a new character introduction.
The first chapter of this book starts with someone else we don’t get a name but from the description, we know they are meta. It seems Sienna and Zack’s relationship has moved forward as well in this book. It seems in this book we see the reversal of Sienna’s powers being used for bad things instead of good. However, it isn’t her but the first perp she is supposed to contain.
Sienna has matured a little since the last book but not too much. She’s still quite young and innocent. Ah so her innocent questions finally get answered and we do see the opposite of her. A person like her that can’t harm interest. But I don’t think there is enough left in this book to get his story. Of course, now we finally begin to see new adult intimacy in the book for Sienna.
Unknown foes ramp up and we have a name for them and a slight description at the very end of this book. Oh, this James fellow is intriguing a man of mystery. We seem to be back to a complicated man in Sienna’s life again but in a different way. A blast from the past is the most perfect moment of course and the end of this book leaves you with more questions than answers. While this heroine paranormal story is action-packed and very Ya it has a decent amount of suspense and thrilling moments as well. However, after reading three books in this series and still having more questions than answers I think I’m done. The author does continue this series and there are a ton of books that continue on this storyline you can find them on Author Robert J. Crane’s page.
