Q & A with Author Melody Tyden

Melody Tyden is a contemporary romance author and a paranormal romance author. She has written various books that you can check out on her Amazon page. Question 1 – When did you start writing?

I have a long history of starting books, but finishing them is another matter! Since I was a teenager I have always had ideas for books and would start writing them but lacked both the time and the skill to see the ideas through to completion. During the COVID pandemic in 2020, time suddenly became more abundant, and I started honing my skills too. I wrote my first complete book then and haven’t looked back.

Question 2 – What comes first, the plot or characters?

The characters. I always start with a strong sense of who my characters are and then base the plot on how they would react to finding themselves in the situations I create.

Question 3 – How many books have you written? Which is your favorite?

I have written 13 books so far! My favorite is my romance novel Hired Lover which tells the story of a divorced author in her 40s who finds an unexpected short-term romance. There is a lot of me in the main character and it is (so far) the only one of my books without a traditional happy ending. It is a little bittersweet, but it makes it even more emotional and close to my heart.

Question 4 – Where do you get your inspiration?

Anywhere and everywhere! The first complete book I wrote (which hasn’t been published yet) was partly inspired by Star Wars, but I have also been inspired by other books I’ve read, song lyrics, and my favorite sport.

Question 5 – Can you share with us something about the book that isn’t in the blurb?

My latest books are a two-part figure skating romance. I skated myself for many years and am a huge fan of the sport, so I didn’t need to do much research for the more technical aspects of the story.

Question 6 – Tell us about the process for coming up with the cover.?

For these two books, I worked with a wonderful designer to create the covers. I wanted the images to convey movement and tension. I also purposefully didn’t want to include the faces of the characters so that readers could fill them in with their own imagination. The designer added the scratchy quality to the photos, which I love, as it reminds me of the marks left in the ice by skate blades after a session on the ice.

Question 7 – Are you working on anything at the present you would like to share with your readers about?

I am working on a sequel to my werewolf novel Mismatched Mates, which I’m very excited about! Abby and Oliver are some of my favorite characters, and I am loving the chance to spend more time with them.

Question 8 – What book is currently on your bedside table?

I am re-reading Jeaniene Frost’s Night Prince series in preparation for a vampire novel that’s brewing in the back of my head!

Question 9 – What do you like to do when you are not writing?

I love to travel (when there’s not a pandemic going on!) and visit new places. I also love history, musical theatre, and figure skating!

Question 10 – Share something your readers wouldn’t know about you.?

I made several appearances (in costume) as one of the Olympic mascots for the Vancouver 2010 Olympics! 🙂
